WTOL 11 News: HD Graphics Redesign

When WTOL made the switch to broadcasting in HD in 2011 all on-air graphics had to be drastically redesigned to fit the new visual "look". I was tasked with creating templates for commonly-used graphics that could be altered on-the-fly. While in the years before 2011 these graphics were created by the news department, this was the first time graphics would be created by the Art Department. I took the opportunity to design these pieces in a way that was specific to the purpose of each graphic, while complying with the strict limitations of broadcasting equipment (such as font, text and image placement, etc.). Before the HD transition the majority of on-air broadcast graphics of WTOL contained a lot of unnecessary text, so I worked to replace text with visuals.

In this particular case, I created a Photoshop Action that would, with the click of a button, first place the main image in the frame to the left, then resize, tilt, and place the image on the screen of the cell phone graphic beneath a glossy overlay.
